David J. Freibert Jr.

David Freibert-Vice President of External Affairs for LG&E and KU Energy LLC, has more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of political and public affairs, and communications.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., David spent the next ten years based in Washington D.C. running a variety of political campaigns around the country.

Before returning to Kentucky, he served for 18 months as Press Officer for the Governor of American Samoa.

A native of Lexington, Freibert returned to the Bluegrass in 1993 to build and then lead the Corporate Communications Department at Kentucky Utilities. Over the next 10 years, he managed and directed areas including public affairs, government relations, media relations, advertising and brand management, and a range of marketing and research. He also helped guide the company through several mergers beginning with the merger of KU and LG&E in 1998.

In 25 years with LG&E and KU, he has overseen the company’s relationships with government, regulatory and community stakeholders at the local, state and federal level.

Freibert currently serves on the Board and Executive Board of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce and as Chairman of the Lexington Downtown Development Authority.
